In case you haven’t heard, the nation is in absolute frenzy about juice extractors, making them easily one of the most popular kitchen appliances today. Of course, this is totally understandable for both health and practical reasons. After all, there is hardly a better way of getting a nutritious and varied dose of easily-digestible fruit and vegetables than by making your own health shakes or juices. Moreover, virtually any combination fair game:  wheat grass and mango? Why not!

OK, but what about juicers? Well, the choices are almost as varied as the juice combinations you can dream up. However, for a relatively simple juice extractor that is compact, high quality and is a breeze to clean, the new Cuisinart CJE-500 Compact Juice Extractor is a great choice.

The CJE-500 may be small, but it’s built for routine use. In fact, it is designed to run for long periods, allowing you to rip through large volumes of soft to even fibrous fruit/vegetables without fear of burnout or overheating. And after you’ve made a first pass through the machine, you can even run the pulp back through the unit again for additional extraction. Juice is collected in an 8-oz glass or into the included 16-oz juice pitcher.

And when you’re all done juicing, clean up is very simple. Pretty much everything on this unit, including the juice pitcher, the pulp collector, filter basket and blades can all be removed and thrown in the dishwasher.

Other noteworthy features of the CJE-500 are its no-brainer-simple push button extraction control; a simple but attractive blue LED display; a handy mesh-type filter basket for pulp/grind separation; a food pusher for safely introducing plant material into the extraction chamber; and a large pulp receptacle.

Of course, there are more elaborate, higher-capacity extractors on the market, and these may be preferable if you are making lots of juice for a larger family and/or are seeking additional, near commercial-grade power. However, these units tend to be significantly more expensive, larger and certainly more time consuming to clean than the CJE-500.

Overall, while it’s not the biggest, strongest or most efficient extractor you can buy, the Cuisinart CJE-500 Compact Juice Extractor is definitely well-built, and its simplicity is its biggest virtue, in addition to being affordable, easy to use and even easier to maintain.
